Standard 11 Brisbane: Mining Induction Requirements and Course Overview

The Standard 11 Brisbane course provides the core safety and risk management training required for anyone entering Queensland coal and metalliferous mining sites. Recognised Standard 11 (RS11) is a mandatory induction that ensures workers understand how to identify hazards, assess risks, and follow site-specific procedures before commencing work on site.

This training includes six nationally recognised units of competency:

  • RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIERR205D – Apply initial response first aid
  • RIIGOV201E – Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIRIS201E – Conduct local risk control
  • RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIERR302E – Respond to local emergencies and incidents

Standard 11 is required across a wide range of roles, not just operators — including trades, supervisors, labour hire personnel, and support staff. Completing this course is the first step toward gaining site access and meeting employer and regulatory requirements within the mining industry.

Standard 11 Training Brisbane for Site-Ready Workers

Our Standard 11 training in Brisbane is delivered face to face or via blended delivery, with a strong focus on practical understanding and real-world application. The course meets all requirements for Recognised Standard 11 training set by the Queensland Mining Safety Inspectorate, typically completed over 2 days (maximum 16 hours) depending on group size and experience, and includes both theory and practical assessment aligned with industry expectations.

Participants will learn how to follow WHS policies and procedures, conduct local risk control, communicate effectively on site, and respond to emergencies and incidents. Training also includes initial response first aid to support safety outcomes in high-risk environments.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for the six Standard 11 units issued by RTO 45597. This supports entry into mining roles and helps ensure workers are prepared to meet site safety requirements and operational expectations.

Sheer Workplace Training is responsible for the quality of this training and assessment, and issues the Statement of Attainment for this unit under RTO 45597.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course; however, participants will need to demonstrate sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to operate successfully and complete this course. There are no prerequisite, entry, work-placement, licensing, certification or pre-course study requirements for this course.

Personal safety clothing must be provided by the student and worn during training. Sheer Workplace Training facility will provide additional safety equipment which must be worn throughout the practical aspect of the training.

Participants must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of this course.

Physical Requirements

It is important to note that there are physical standards which relate to the level of performance required when undertaking accredited training. There can be no exceptions to these Australian Government requirements that are clearly written into the Training Package.

Therefore, students who are unable to satisfy the physical requirements of the course cannot be deemed competent or issued with a statement of attainment, even if the qualification is a necessary part of their employment conditions.

Course Fees

Pre-Course Study

  • Students can obtain a training handbook which includes pre-training reading via email or collection prior to training.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Completing any vocational education course in Australia, it is a requirement for you to obtain and supply a USI. This is obtainable from usi.gov.au — if a USI is not supplied and verified with usi.gov.au a certificate cannot be issued to you.

  • Initial First Aid procedures
  • Statement of Attainment issued by RTO 45597

Course pre-requisites:

  • Read and write English to a basic level
  • Have the necessary health and fitness to carry out the tasks safely

Qualification and certification: Successful attendees receive a Statement of Attainment for the Standard 11 course, covering all 6 units of competency.

Assessments:

  • Written Assessment
  • Practical Assessment

Duration: 2 days for training and assessment

The simulated assessment environments will reflect the real-life working environment where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment. Skills must be demonstrated by the student working individually in an environment that provides realistic, in-depth, industry-validated scenarios and simulations to assess students’ skills and knowledge.
