Conduct Civil Construction Skid Steer Loader Operations: What This Course Covers

The Conduct Civil Construction Skid Steer Loader Operations course, RIIMPO318F, provides the skills and knowledge required to operate a skid steer loader safely in civil construction and site-based environments. This training is suited to workers who need competency in loading, hauling and distributing materials while meeting workplace procedures, safety requirements, and job site expectations.

Training covers planning and preparing for skid steer loader operations, identifying hazards, applying risk controls, conducting pre-operational checks, and operating the machine in line with safe work practices. Participants also learn how to manage materials, use communication signals, complete shutdown procedures, and carry out housekeeping activities. Attachment use is also included, with training covering the selection, fitting, testing, removal and safe use of skid steer attachments such as buckets, augers, blades and brooms.

This unit is relevant across civil construction, earthmoving and infrastructure work where skid steer loader operation forms part of daily site tasks and production activities.

Practical Skid Steer Loader Training for Civil Construction Worksites

Our skid steer loader training is delivered face to face and built around practical, hands-on learning that reflects real workplace conditions. The course is designed to help participants develop the operational skills needed to work safely and effectively on site, with training that combines theory, machine operation, and practical assessment.

Participants will learn how to conduct pre-start checks, operate the loader to suit site conditions, move and place materials safely, and select and use attachments within the machine’s design limits. Training also covers relocation procedures, post-operational checks, operator maintenance, and safe work practices for changing conditions on civil construction sites.

Course duration is typically 1 to 3 days, depending on group size and experience, and can be delivered at our location or onsite where suitable equipment is available. On successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIMPO318F issued by RTO 45597.
