This course provides participants with the hands on practical skills and theoretical knowledge to safely operate a Forklift type truck. The course is delivered using a combination of classroom based instruction and practical skills development sessions using and operating a forklift. The training specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements.

Forklift truck means a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground, but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck. A person performing this work is required to hold a forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).

The course is delivered 2 days face to face training and 1 day for assessment. Training and assessment can be delivered at one of our dedicated training facilities or at your site providing the correct equipment is available. This course is suitable for those who wish to operate a forklift truck in the Resources, Construction, Transport or Retail industry.

Once you have completed your face-to-face training and upon successful completion of assessment, you will need to apply for High Risk Work (HRW) Licence through  WorkSafe Qld. High risk licences need to be renewed every 5 years (how to renew your licence).

Sheer Workplace Training is responsible for the quality of the training and assessment and will be issuing the statement of attainment issued through RTO 45597 for this unit.

Entry requirements

Participants must be over 18 years of age, be able to speak and understand English; understand technical concepts; and provide suitable identification.

Physical requirements for this course

It is important to note that there are physical standards which relate to the level of performance required when undertaking accredited training.

ASSESSMENT

The forklift operator assessment process is similar in every Australian state and territory. All components of the assessment are mandatory and supplied by Safe Work Australia.

Under Workplace Health and Safety Legislation, Assessors are required to submit details of all upcoming assessments to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s head office in advance. Sheer Workplace Training is required to provide at least 3 business days notice before conducting any forklift assessments.

Inspectors from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland in Brisbane have the authority to conduct an unannounced audit of our assessors, the trainee and the forklift and order picker licence training facility at any time.

Assessment is conducted over one day and is made up of theory, calculations and practical elements.

  • You need to achieve a successful outcome in the theory and calculations component before you can proceed to the practical assessment
  • Your practical assessment will be conducted in English – no interpreters

Participants who successfully complete our Nationally Recognised Forklift Licence Training Course will receive a licensing registration, making them experienced and qualified operators of forklifts. Our highly experienced personnel provide an engaging combination of practical training and theory-based education to ensure participants have the knowledge and skills to be safe, competent and confident in their operation of a forklift. Enrol in our Forklift Course today and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
