From building sites to powerline maintenance, arborist work and more, EWPs (Elevating Work Platform) help make light work of difficult jobs. Being able to use an EWP safely is a great skill to have and one that many employers will look for in new applicants.

If you live and/or work in Mackay and need to complete an accredited EWP A course, Sheer Workplace Training can assist. Experts in delivering a  range of training related to high-risk work licenses, our team of passionate educators can help you gain the skills you need to succeed.

What Are EWP A’s?

Elevating work platforms are any workspace that is raised/elevated to make working at heights easier. An example of an EWP A could be a boom lift or ‘cherry picker’ which are often used for maintenance work on powerlines.

There are five main types of EWP, VL – Vertical lift, SL – Scissor Lift, BL – Self-Propelled Boom Lift, TL – Trailer Mounted Lift, TM – Truck Mounted Lift.

Operating an EWP A can be difficult and at times dangerous. This is why it is required by law that proper certification is obtained before using them.

Why Pursue An EWP A Yellow Card?

Obtaining your EWP A certification can be beneficial for several reasons. Understanding how to perform machinery checks and safely operate boom lift, scissor lift, and vertical lift machinery can help you stand out from other job applicants and earn a higher salary.

Having a valued skill such as this greatly enhances your employability. Elevated work platforms are used across a variety of well-paid roles and in numerous industries including:

  • Civil construction
  • Construction
  • Coal and metalliferous mining
  • Drilling
  • Extractive Industries
  • Manufacture industries
  • Transport and Logistics
  • Emergency Rescue Team members (ERT)
  • Rescue officers
  • Any members of the public who require competency to perform a specific role

Additionally, it ensures you are able to safely operate EWPs – minimising the risk of accidents for both you and your workmates. Keen to travel or relocate within Australia? Being nationally recognised, this certification is valid for use anywhere in Australia.

Who Can Attend This Course

For a restricted elevating work platform EWP license, attendees are required to be at least 16 years of age. For a full EWP Yellow Card, applicants must be 18 years or over as required by law.

During the training, we request that participants wear appropriate safety clothing. Should any additional safety gear or equipment be required to complete the training, this will be provided by Sheer Workplace Training.

This course is suited to both first-time learners, those seeking to brush up on their skills or those whose previous EWP yellow card has expired.

What Are The Course Requirements?

As well as being 18 years or over, a good understanding of written and spoken English is needed to complete the course. There are no work placement, licensing, certification or pre-course study requirements for this course.

Physical Fitness

You will need to demonstrate a good level of physical fitness due to the agility needed to safely complete some tasks. Australian Government legislation is very strict on this element of training and as such there can be no exceptions to demonstrating competency in this area.

Failure to meet these conditions will mean that participants are unable to complete the course or receive their Statement of Attainment.

If you have concerns relating to the physical fitness requirements for this course, please speak with us before confirming your enrolment. Alternatively, you can review the fact sheet provided by The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)

Course Fees

As with all our courses, our EWP training fees must be paid for in full before the commencement of the course.

Sheer Workplace Training values transparency and communication, as such all course fees and requirements will be clearly communicated to you before confirmation of enrolment.
